Our Organization
Challenge New Mexico is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, founded in 1957 by a group of parents concerned with securing residential care for their family members with disabilities. In keeping with the original vision, our organization is still guided by the needs of the individual and the family. We assist in establishing goals and remain actively involved in working towards those goals and outcomes through innovative program offerings.
CNM"s goals are to provide:
- Support, counseling and information to individuals with disabilities and to their families.
- Quality of life activities that teach and develop skills which accent a person's abilities rather than disabilities.
- Coordination of therapeutic goals- physical, occupational, speech/language and behavioral therapies in settings that are safe and fun.
- Activities in community settings with typical peers in order to develop a supportive circle of friends.
- Technical assistance and information to community agencies, schools and human service agencies to facilitate the inclusion of individuals with disabilities.
Opportunities to increase community awareness and acceptance of those with disabilities, encouraging volunteers in all program areas.
- Program content and activities based on the input and requests of participants, to ensure a consumer-driven focus and curriculum
Motto: "If I can do this, I can do anything!"
